Passage – ICA Miami
Passage – Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami
In April 2024, I was invited by Alex Gartenfeld, director of the ICA Miami, to present Passage with its second movement. In the evolving narrative, following their encounters with a mirage of cedar trees, a black mountain, and a heavy bronze doll, the passengers begin to recall what happened before the violent storm that had left them shipwrecked and floating in a state of amnesia. Memories unfold – immense heat, widespread fire and awakening traits of their human consciousness.
The performance came to life in a powerful dialogue between a series of vibrant red and yellow cedar paintings, a portrait of a leaping red monkey, new music infused with the saxophone of Jesse Bannister and dynamic choreographies by Durante Verzola.
The show, which was generously supported by Knight Foundation and curated by Stephanie Seidel, occupied the 3rd floor of the museum – a wonderful wide-open space that allowed the audience to be immersed in the performance and the exhibited works.
