Upcoming exhibition navigating time and space at Kunstmuseum Thun.
The exhibition combines over 90 paintings, sculptures, text, sound and video installations, weaving together new work with aspects of my projects in the blue, 2019; On the Edge of Time, 2022, and Passage – in the wake of the world, 2023/2024.
The exhibition takes the viewer on a journey reflecting on where we are heading and how we respond to the uncertainties of our times.
It would be a great pleasure to welcome you to one or more of the events during the exhibition. Please note the following dates:
April 4, 6:30 pm: Opening
Welcome at 7 pm
May 4, 2025, 2 to 3:30 pm: Tour of the exhibition with museum director Helen Hirsch and Angela Lyn, followed by a tea ceremony with Grace Mani at 3.30 pm
May 24 at 11:15 to 12:15 pm: Artist Talk and exhibition tour
Kunstmuseum Thun simultaneously hosts an exhibition of works by the artist Rebekka Steiger. On this occasion Angela Lyn and Rebekka Steiger will discuss their work with museum director Helen Hirsch.
June 4 and 5 at 6.30 pm: Passage – in the wake of the world
Passage is an evolving multi-disciplinary project that aligns my work as a visual artist with the choreography of Durante Verzola from Miami City Ballet, and the music of UK composer Jesse Bannister, bringing together ideas and inspirations that broaden our horizons in how we relate and respond to our times.
Passage I was launched at Chambers Fine Art in New York in 2023 and, in January 2024, was presented in a work overview at Works & Process at the Guggenheim, New York. In April 2024, the Institute of Contemporary Art, ICA Miami, presented Passage II with its entire works.
We are delighted to bring this ongoing project to Switzerland with a premier performance of Passage III in Kunstmuseum Thun. Renowned New York ballet dancers Itzkan Barbosa and Renan Cerdeiro will perform Passage amidst the exhibition works. The performance will be followed by an artist talk moderated by Prof. Giaco Schiesser.
June 21 at 3pm: Michael Schindhelm and Angela Lyn in Conversation
Michael Schindhelm is a writer, filmmaker, curator, and cultural advisor for international organisations. He has followed my work for a number of years. In 2022, he made a short film about my project On the Edge of Time at the Villa Arconati FAR, Milan. I am delighted and honoured that Michael will join me in my upcoming exhibition in Kunstmuseum Thun to look into how the various aspects of my work connect and the impact they try to create.
August 3: Finissage
For the last day of the exhibition, I will be present to welcome anyone still wishing to see the show.
Due to limited space, if you wish to pre-reserve a space for any of these events please sign up here. Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
A compact publication in German and English accompanies the exhibition. Designed as a map, it guides the visitors through the rooms and their content. The publication contains my written texts, a detailed interview with the curator Cornelius Krell and images of all the works.
With much appreciation to the sponsors for their generous support of the exhibition: The Department of Culture of the City of Lugano; The Office of Cultural Promotion of Canton Ticino; Dr Bruce M.
